How does it work
Carbonless paper can be printed in a standard laser printer and does not require a waxy carbon sheet in between the copies to create the image transfer. As it is carbonless, the image transfer is created when pressure is applied to the paper in the form of a signature or written text, due to the chemical coatings on the top and bottom of each sheet being activated when they come in contact with each other.
How is it Printed?
A4 carbonless paper can be inserted into a standard office laser printer in the same way that A4 copy paper is used.
Each sheet will print out individually and it is up to the user to then collate the sheets together in duplicate or triplicate sets.
The paper can be already pre-collated in its ream and inserted into one printer tray, This way is perfect if the information printed on each sheet is exactly the same.
You can then set your printer to print 3 copies at a time if you require a triplicate set. Or if you have different information on each sheet, then you can insert each ream of the top, middle or back copies into separate printer trays and print each sheet individually and collate together into a set yourself.
How is it used?
If you file the sheets in a ring binder you also need to put a piece of cardboard under the set you want to write on, because if there is no dividing barrier the written piece will be transferred through on to all of the sheets.
By using a ball point pen and applying pressure to the top copy sheet, the image will be transferred onto the second and/or third copy. This way, each of the involved parties can keep a record of the signed copy.
Important Information
In order for carbonless paper to work, you have to use 2 or 3 sheets of carbonless paper together. Each sheet needs to have a carbonless coating that touches the coating of the sheet above or below it for the image transfer to occur. You cannot use 1 sheet of carbonless paper with a sheet of normal copy paper, as the image transfer will not work.
